I liked sleeping dogs better, but yakuza is fun. if they made a sequel to Sleeping dogs and added a deeper story and tons of side games/missions like Yakuza, Sleeping dogs would smash the competition. It might be a translation thing, but the dialogue is dragged on too. Like in simple missions/quests.
And then I was crying my eyes out during the ending. That is all. Combat-wise Sleeping Dogs along with the story. I bought up all the PS3 games but never played them. Yakuza is an over the top brawler RPG, while Shenmue is far more down to earth, and closer to the style of a Point and Click adventure game, that sometimes goes into Virtua Fighter combat. Yakuza 4 will keep you Constantly in combat with random battles as you walk around the section of city....but somehow, it still manages to get boring AF after the story is done......so because of this, id say they are both Equal. yakuza focus on story and characters while sleeping dogs is more of action oriented.
I liked sleeping dogs too but it's typical western sandbox game and it lacks the charm that yakuza game has.
It has open world and driving, you have substories and minigames, there is fighting using martial arts and when you have a gun you have to actually aim and hide behind things.
Imo sleeping dogs fits perfectly between GTA and Yakuza. Yakuza is small but feels larger than it is due to the sheer amount of stuff there is to do, while Sleeping Dogs is larger but in the end so far feels smaller as it's story is more focused and while you can distract yourself for a bit doing side stuff, you're not getting too far without furthering the story.. since most of the side stuff is just buying things. Same as pokemon. Y3 is hard and Y4 is... Well, you have to beat it 3 times. Similar to me, except without the friend trying to educate me.
Yakuza has more mini games and no cars. Sleeping Dogs is a more fun platinum trophy if you're into that. My little brother did though. The only Yakuza game I played I didn't care for at all. I VERY quickly realized how wrong I was. Overall I had way more fun with Sleeping Dogs. Sleeping dogs is open world but more focused somehow which is weird to think about it. Well I've been playing them side by side since my first comment... they're both totally different beasts that are set in the same kind of world, Sleeping Dogs has some levity thrown in at odd moments, but is more serious.. it feels like an action movie. They both have karaoke, but Yakuza beats sleeping dogs in that department. XDD, Yakuza can compare to Sleeping Dogs But not GTA.
There are a lot of little distractions that are too distracting I guess.
